If you can provide a loving foster home for Keesha, please go to
Services — Charlie to the Rescue!
and let us know, Charlie to the Rescue! will try to find a rescue to work with you to pull and pay the expenses for Keesha, while in your care.
BARCS dog tested her while she was in HEAT, so this very well may be why she didn’t do well on the dog test. She passed all other tests with no issue. A neighbor of her former owner reports that Keesha gets along well with all humans, including kids, and that she would run along her fence with the neighbor’s pittie and never showed any aggression towards him. Even the Animal Control officer remarked how easily she went with him and how sweet she is. Please consider fostering Keesha so that a rescue can pull her. To be on the safe side, it would be best if a foster did not have any pets.
Funky Town (Keesha): 2 year old, Female, 58lbs.
Funky Town came to us as a stray on the 22nd, a local resident informed us that she had been running at large for a bit before someone was able to catch her. She had quite an adventure as she was seen crossing several major roadways!
At intake our medical team noted she was a bit shy but warmed up quickly and was friendly for handling. She does not appear to be stressed in her kennel and does well on walks with volunteers.
When our training team got her out with other dogs however she did not do well. She seemed pretty uncomfortable and did some over correcting, snapping and lunging. Due to these behaviors with other dogs she is not an adoption candidate through BARCS but we would love to find her a rescue who would be able to support her behavior.
Our medical team said that she is overall healthy but moderately underweight and seems to be in heat. While she is not spayed yet if a rescue could pull her BARCS would be willing to do her spay surgery. A full medical summary can be provided upon request!
At this time, we are unable to continue caring for Funky Town due to her dog to dog skills and are only seeking rescue placement.
If your rescue is able to pull Funky Town please email rescue@barcs.org.
**BARCS is an open-admission shelter, which means we say yes to every animal, regardless of space or resources. Intake does not stop when we are full. We are also underfunded and not built for long-term rehabilitation, so we operate in constant triage as new animals arrive every day. When we cannot continue care, we rely on adopters and rescue partners to step in. We share these pleas because we believe in transparency. We ALL want the same outcome—this is a call for help, and a chance to change it!
Not able to help this animal but still want to make an impact? Come adopt, foster, or pull another animal into your rescue. Creating space helps ease the daily emergency.
