Gentle Giant Seeking a Patient Heart
Lucy is a 2-year-old, 70lb Great Pyrenees who came to the shelter after she and three other dogs were removed from a property by Animal Control. Her world has been very small. She lived outdoors with limited socialization and likely experienced very little beyond the property she came from. Because of that, the world as we know it can feel overwhelming and scary to her.
True to her Great Pyrenees nature, Lucy prefers being outside. She does walk on a leash, but new environments and unfamiliar people make her nervous. She is shy and can be standoffish when first meeting someone. Lucy is unsure about touch, so she needs a calm, patient person who will move at her pace and allow her to learn that hands can bring comfort instead of fear.
Despite her uncertainty, Lucy has already shown she wants to try. She knows “sit” and “come,” and with time, consistency, and gentle guidance, she has the potential to continue building both her skills and her confidence. Forming a bond with Lucy may take patience, but the reward will be a deep and meaningful connection built on trust.
Lucy arrived with other dogs, and while her past interactions are unknown, she responded in a friendly and playful manner when meeting another dog at the shelter. She may benefit from living with a calm, confident canine companion who can help show her the ropes.
Lucy would thrive with a rescue or adopter who understands the independent, sensitive, guardian nature of the Great Pyrenees breed. She needs someone committed to giving her the time, space, and reassurance she deserves. Once Lucy begins to trust you, her quiet, gentle, loving side shines through. She accepts affection softly and looks to her person for reassurance that the world is not such a frightening place after all.
Lucy has survived a limited and sheltered life. Now she needs someone willing to gently expand her world and show her that safety, kindness, and love truly exist.
Lucy is spayed, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative
