Hero Needs a Safe Haven: Sweet Young Dog with Serious Skin Injuries

Hero is a 1-year-old spayed female weighing about 57 pounds who has already experienced more hardship than any young dog should. When she arrived at the shelter, it was immediately clear that she had been suffering for some time with severe skin issues affecting nearly her entire body. Her coat is almost completely gone, leaving only a thin layer of hair on her face and head, and the skin across her neck, body, legs, and tail is thickened, crusted, and inflamed. Painful ulcerative sores are present between her toes, and both ears are infected and uncomfortable.

Adding to the heartbreak of her condition, her previous owner reported that bleach water had been thrown on her months ago. While we cannot fully confirm the details of that incident, it is clear that Hero has been living with significant skin disease and discomfort for quite some time before finally receiving the care she needed.

Despite everything she has endured, Hero has remained incredibly kind and cooperative with our staff. During her exam she was bright, alert, and very gentle, allowing our team to examine and treat her without issue. Even after months of discomfort, her sweet temperament shines through, reminding everyone who meets her just how resilient and forgiving dogs can be.

Hero has begun treatment for her skin infections, ear infections, and pododermatitis. She is currently receiving medicated baths, antibiotics, antifungal medication, and ear treatment, and she will require several weeks of ongoing care as her skin slowly begins to heal. Recovery will take time, but with the right medical support and a stable environment, there is every reason to believe that Hero can improve dramatically.

Right now, Hero needs a rescue partner who can continue the medical care she has started and give her a safe place to recover. She has already shown so much patience and trust despite her painful past. With rescue support, she can begin to heal, regrow her coat, regain her comfort, and finally experience the life her name promises.

Hero has survived neglect and suffering, but her story does not have to end there. With the help of a dedicated rescue, she can leave the pain behind and step into a future where she is cared for, protected, and truly loved.
