In Baltimore City, MD: Rescue needed: Very sweet mama dog + (9) 1-week-old puppies from suspected dog fighting situation - BARCS, Baltimore MD
Please share this plea, one second to share may mean a lifetime for 10 LIVES!
Snowcone 6 (mom)- 5 y/o, unaltered female, 52lbs
Snowcone 7-15 (puppies)- 7 days old, 5M/4F
Update 7/7: While in her temporary foster home, Mama Snowcone is described as "perfect, extremely sweet, and friendly." The foster reports that she does not mind people around her puppies, is very attentive to them, seems very housebroken- though may occasionally have an accident here and there- is polite, quiet in the home, and is "generally a perfect girl."
Unfortunately, Mama Snowcone's foster can not keep her and her puppies any longer than Wednesday 7/9, so we are desperate to find rescue placement for this family so that they do not have to return to the shelter.
Mama Snowcone and her 9 adorably chunky puppies- along with several other adult dogs- were brought to BARCS through our partnering Animal Control, and based on the findings, we believe/suspect that they were kept and bred for the purposes of dog fighting.
Although all of these dogs are still very new in our care, mama Snowcone has been friendly and easily handled by staff, including during her intake exam. She also passed a dog test, and while not fully comfortable and somewhat avoidant of the other dogs, was able to coexist peacefully and return polite greetings.
Upon examination, our vets noted that Snowcone mom appears healthy at this time, though she does have several healing scars on her face, hip, and thigh. A few of the Snowcone puppies have slight pressure sores/abrasions and #14 has a grade 1/6 heart murmur. Full medical summaries can be provided upon request.
A shelter is no place for a mom to raise her young babies, so we are seeking rescue placement for Snowcone + 9. They are available immediately for rescue pick-up.
