In Baltimore City, MD: Young pup found tied to a bench with leash cutting into her leg - BARCS, Baltimore MD
Lagunitas- 1 year old, unaltered, F, 65 lbs
Lagunitas was found tethered to a bench in a barricade type fencing. She was visibly malnourished and the leash was tightly wrapped around her left leg cutting into her skin. Animal control removed her from the scene to transport her into the shelter's care.
While at the shelter, she has been a stressed out girl. She does tend to jump and mouth at her handler but we are hoping this is a stress induced behavior. When tested with other dogs she did not show much engagement but politely interacted. She mainly sought out the handler or exit of the yard.
Last year, she spent some time in a foster home through us and her foster described her as playful and eager to please. They said she is a cuddle bug who is good with people. She likes playing fetch and tug of war. She is perfecting her housetraining skills, walks well on a leash, knows basic commands like "sit" and "down."
When left alone in a wire crate, she did chew/escape the crate. While at the shelter, she is also very stressed in her kennel and hesitant to return.
Upon medical examination, Lagunitas presented as slightly thin with fleas and a lame, swollen left hind leg. She was started on pain medication with plans to recheck her leg in a few days. A full medical summary can be provided upon request.
