Lola Needs Immediate Attention!! - Baltimore, MD
Lola: unaltered female, 4yo, 53.6lbs
Lola came to the shelter as an owner surrender due to “mouthy” behaviors around table scraps. Based on training staff observations, her behavior appears to be more related to becoming overly excited around food rather than true food guarding behaviors. She has not shown classic guarding behaviors such as hovering over food, growling, stiffening, snapping, or biting over meals.
Lola has several significant medical concerns that require ongoing care. She has severe dental disease and is in urgent need of a dental procedure. She is also severely brachycephalic, meaning her airway is significantly compromised due to her facial structure. Because of this, she may require airway surgery in the future to help her breathe more comfortably, which can be very costly.
Due to her airway limitations, Lola is at high risk for heat-related illness, which can quickly become life-threatening even in moderate temperatures. She will need careful lifelong management, including air conditioning, very limited outdoor exposure in warm or humid weather, and close monitoring during activity.
Lola also has a severe underbite in addition to her other medical concerns.
Dogs like Lola often struggle in a shelter environment, where stress, noise, and environmental limitations can make both medical management and comfort difficult. She urgently needs a rescue placement willing to continue her care and provide the stable environment she needs to safely thrive.
