Rescue/Foster Needed: Finn, Affectionate 4-Year-Old Boxer Mix Who Loves People.
If you can provide a loving foster home for Finn, please go to https://www.charliedog.org/services and let us know, Charlie to the Rescue! will try to find a rescue to work with you to pull and pay the expenses for Finn while in your care.
Finn is a 4-year-old neutered boxer mix, weighing about 55 pounds, who recently arrived at our shelter after being found as a stray. He was already on our owner surrender list, and while his family clearly cared about him, changing life circumstances meant they could no longer give him the time and attention he deserves. Now Finn is waiting for a rescue partner who can help him move forward into a more stable and fulfilling future.
Finn is a sweet, affectionate dog who truly loves being around people. He thrives on human attention and is happiest when he can be close to his favorite humans. When he first comes out of his crate, he can be a little excitable and eager for attention, but it is clear that his enthusiasm simply comes from a desire to connect and play. He enjoys toys and games like tug of war, walks nicely on leash, and already knows several cues including sit, stay, and paw. His previous owner shared that he is crate-trained and will happily go to his crate when asked to “go home.” He is also known to gently take treats and happily trade toys when asked.
Finn has lived with cats in the past but tended to play too roughly and chase them, so a cat-free home would likely be the best fit for him. He has been around other medium-sized dogs and enjoys playful interactions, so he may do well with a canine companion with proper introductions. Because he can be jumpy and does not always realize his size when excited, a home with teens or adults would likely help him succeed while he continues working on his manners.
Medically, Finn is currently being treated for a severe ear infection in both ears that has caused him discomfort and itching. He also has some minor skin abrasions that are likely related to scratching. He has begun treatment including medications, ear care, and parasite prevention, and will need a recheck in two weeks to monitor his progress. Aside from these treatable concerns, Finn is bright, alert, well-muscled, and otherwise in good spirits. A soft heart murmur was noted during his exam and will also be re-evaluated once his current medical issues improve.
Despite the changes in his life, Finn remains an incredibly loving dog who simply wants to be near people and share his joyful personality. He is the kind of dog who greets visitors with enthusiasm, leans in for attention, and reminds everyone around him how special the bond between humans and dogs can be. With guidance, structure, and a little continued work on his manners, Finn has the potential to become a wonderful and loyal companion.
Finn is hoping a rescue partner will see the loving dog he is and help him move forward into the life he deserves. With the right support, continued medical care, and a patient home that can provide attention and stability, Finn’s future can be full of the companionship and happiness he clearly craves.
If your rescue organization can help Finn, please contact us for more information. Transport assistance may be available.
