Voyager Needs You!!! - Baltimore, MD
Voyager - altered male, 8yo, 60.4lbs
Voyager was surrendered by his owner on 3/11 because they were moving and could not keep him. He had been part of their family for 4 years and is housebroken and crate trained. Voyager loves running in the yard and has interacted well with cats. He is also great with children.
Previous home notes indicate that Voyager can be scared and protective of people entering the home. He has shown leash reactivity toward both dogs and people, and when meeting strangers, he may sometimes bark or jump up. On leash, he can get reactive toward other dogs, particularly male dogs, though this behavior has not been observed in the shelter setting. Barrier reactivity toward people has been noticed in his kennel; he may bark, jump, or move away, which seems fear-based. Resource guarding behavior has not been observed in the shelter, though the previous owner noted, “I wouldn’t suggest people do this but I am fine with it,” when asked about taking food or toys away.
During his dog test, Voyager starts tense and can be defensive in close proximity. He may loosen over time with polite female dogs but remains significantly tenser around male dogs, showing growling and posturing when in proximity.
Voyager is moderately overweight but otherwise appears generally in good health. Full behavioral and medical notes are available upon request.
